Firstly sorry if this has been answered before

I have a 2 x 2.8 Mac Pro and want to have dual monitors for Photoshop and Dreamweaver development

The monitors I have are 2408WFP Dell displays

The MP has a ATi HD 2600XT fitted

What is the best solution for dual monitor support.

ATI 4870 or ATi X1900 or GTX285?

Does the ATI 4870 support 2 DVI monitors with adaptors?

Can I use the 4870 with the 2600??

2x2.8 does not say anything, model? 2006? 2008?

if its 2006 or 2007, you can not use the 285gtx.

for your needs, id get a PC 4870 and flash it.

it's the cheapest alternative, but gives you a powerful card
you get two DVI outputs

for flashing, you'll be looking for this card

2 x 2.8Ghz Late 2008 1600FSB

UK so links to US suppliers are defunct for me as most will not supply and european stock is different

Does the Apple 4870 support dual DVI with adaptor?

Yes, but it has only half the memory, is twice or three times the price of a flashed PC card. Just about the only case it is usefull is when you need a VGA port for some reason.

There was a supplier in UK who still had 5 of the ideal XFX 4870 cards as of last week. Dig into last couple pages of the big 4870 thread, I think it was there. The XFX are best as they offer DUal DVI functionality in both Leopard and Snow Leopard.

Do some research, but I would hurry and see if any of them are still available

Bought the Apple EVGA in the end :)

Just in time thought as my 2600XT failed  now the system is with :apple:
