10.6.8: Gaming performance back to normal!

Seems like it to me, more or less before. I just tested Left 4 Dead 1 on both my 27" i5 iMac and 11.6" MBA and plays much better than it did before. 10.6.7 was unbearably laggy and had erratic framerates for me. Everything seems smooth again in 10.6.8.

Anyone under 10.6.8 on a new MBA, playing more modern games, please chime in your experiences!
 
I don't game, so I can't say for sure. When you installed 10.6.7, did you try any of the alternative methods that supposedly "fixed" the graphics issue? For instance, I think people had problems when they simply updated using Software Update, or when they installed using the Combo update. I think the best results with 10.6.7 were when people downloaded the version update from Apple's site and installed it manually.

Yea, I never tried those fixes. In fact, I didn't know they had fixes (I didn't read the other thread extensively since I don't gaming specifically on the Air). I just gave up on OSX for gaming for the time being and just went bootcamp.

Well, at least I can confirm that 10.6.8, resolved my graphics issue on two Mac machines at home.
 
I upgraded to 10.6.7 using the "correct" method and after upgrading to 10.6.8 I too have seen improvement in games. Good stuff! :apple:
 
I concur! My frame rates in Starcraft 2 are noticeably better than in 10.6.7!
 
Sc2 runs fine. playing in campaign and 1v1.
Of course, it was fine on 10.6.7 also.
I see no difference so far.
Setting at customs (mid/low) I play low when 1v1s and 2v2s.
 
Good to hear. I had to incrementally update from 10.6.5->10.6.6->10.6.7 to retain graphics performance. Luckily downgrading with the software key from the MBA box isn't destructive.
 
same thing occurred to me. Bought the MBA 13" (2.13, 4gb) in May, straight away updated it to OS X 10.6.7

Got SC2 and it was terrible... fps was 4-7.

Came in here to look for an answer, and found it.

So i inserted the reset key, and updated the OS one version at a time. Everytime i did so, I tried SC2, and its fine.

I am now pdated to OS X 10.6.8, and SC2 is ok.

my FPS is now hovering at 29 - is this norm?
 
Civ 4?

Anyone try Civilization 4 with 10.6.8? It was horribly laggy before, although the graphics card in my Mac Mini mid 2010 wasn't officially supported.
 
These are my graphics settings for SC2


My general fps is in between 35-40. The absolute lowest I have seen it is 29.

This topic has been beat to death since the day 10.6.8 was available. Search the forum before RE-RE-RE-POSTING.

Yes, 10.6.8 fixed graphic issues and brought trim support for apple certified SSDs.

Nothing to see here move on.....

Generally, I'm a single player kinda guy. But when I do feel like multiplayer, I can usually use the same settings. But it runs better if I change textures from high to medium. Also, I'm using a 2011 13" MBP

I just made an error ladies and gentlemen...I just realized this is an MBA thread. My graphics options are with a 13" pro. Sorry for any confusion guys
