With the advent of the MacBook Neo, the MacBook subforum (under Macs/Notebooks) has been renamed "MacBook Neo". While this renaming and the forum subtitle ("Questions and answers about Apple's entry-level laptop") are consistent with the current lineup of Mac notebooks, I do find it irritating that now the MacBook Neo subforum also contains all threads on the 12" Retina MacBook. I would suggest to open a separate subforum for the latter category of Intel Macs. Maybe one could have a section "Intel Macs", with separate subforums on the Core Duo/Core 2 Duo machines and on the 12" rMB?

Having them intermixed with the Neo threads is confusing and I agree having a separate home for them at this point makes more sense. They really have nothing in common with the neo and it detracts not adds to the overall function of the forum.

Exactly. MacBook Neo, while it’s a budget MacBook like its 12 inch MacBook predecessor in the late Intel era, they should be separated into different categories.

They should not combine it with MacBook Air either because the air and pro are still two long standing MacBook variants

The 12" MacBook wasn't budget—it was a premium product that cost more in exchange not for being faster but in being tiny. Kind of like the iPhone Air.

But, yeah, I really love mine. If it weren't for the dying battery, it would be the world's greatest writing computer. I think the answer is no, but no chance a Neo motherboard could be made to fit in a 12" MacBook, right?

True. The 12-inch MacBook wasn’t marketed as a low-priced device. While both the Neo and the 12-inch MacBook lack as many powerful USB-C ports as their MacBook Pro and Air counterparts, the 12-inch MacBook offers more upgrade and configuration options. The Neo only had two configuration options for the SSD and Touch ID optional add-on, whereas the 12-inch MacBook Retina (2015-2017) allows you to upgrade both the RAM and processor simultaneously upon purchase . Therefore, the two devices are not truly comparable.

Agree, the entry-level Neo should not be grouped with the 12" retina MacBook.

But it could very well be grouped with the entry-level early Intel MacBooks.

So why was the 12" retina MacBook grouped with the early Intel MacBook?

Because going by name is the only option that everybody can just understand.

It's Apple's fault to let the MacBook and MacBook Air names trade role ove time.

Both designated at one point the entry-level and at one point the premium ultralight.

Each Mac version should have its own thread or sub-forum. The Intel Macs should be in their own section like PowerPC when macOS 27 is revealed. Just my 2 cents...

I would appreciate to hear from any of the moderators whether this complaint will be acknowledged. So far, only the original title of this thread has been modified.
