06 Macbook: Replacing optical drive with a 2nd HD (ssd) Good idea or not?

I barely ever use my optical drive and would like to try to boost up the speed of my aging 06 macbook.

I've heard of people replacing their optical drive with an ssd drive.

Is this possible? Is this a bad idea? What are the pros and cons of doing something like this?
