Is anyone else experiencing an increase in operating temperature with 10.6?? (See my signature for system specs)

My computer used to run in the 26-30 Celsius (80-86 Fahrenheit) range, and now it is running constantly in the 31-35 Celsius (88-95 Fahrenheit) range.

Anyone else experiencing an increase in temp after 10.6 install??

Do you think when I upgrade to an ATI 4870 it will change anything??

Uhhhh, what? No Mac Pro or Power mac (or iMac for that matter) runs at 26 degrees celsius. What temperature are you talking about, ambient? That varies everyday. It's basically room temperature + 5 or 10. CPUs go from 40 to 80, HDs from 25 to 45, memory from 35 to 50. Graphics cards can be anywhere from 50 to 80.

Sorry, that is just the temperature that smc was giving me

Here is my readout from iStat Menu

The ambient is pretty much the same as it has always been (+- 2-4 degrees) and all other temperatures seem to be about 5+ degrees hotter

Mines seems a bit cooler

Mine seems to be 5-8 deg F cooler just reading forums etc. Tho thats nothing. It takes a lot more before you need to worry. I've noticed that while doing many things that there are lots more or all of my 8 cores working and no longer get one that runs real hot compared to the rest. Secure Empty Trash used to get mine pretty hot while doing large deletes and took forever.

So I take it by the lack of responses these are normal temperatures for a Mac Pro '08 doing basic tasks such as surfing the internet??

Yes, normal.

Given your 29C ambient, you cannot expect a CPU temperature of 26C, say.

It's a computer, not a fridge :)

Oh really???

What was it you were saying again?

Everything is normal except the CPUs and memory... obviously this is in a cool environment (18 degree CPU suggests 17 degree or less environment) and abusing the system's fans. No Mac Pro in a 20-25 degree environment will run that cool running the cooling the way it was designed. Just web browsing the lowest temp on any component is at least 5 degrees above room temperature.

I could hold a blow dryer in front of mine and say at 25 degrees it idles at 75, but that isn't reality.
