I dont currently have an Early 08 MacPro, however my 2.66 07 MacPro has a SONY,

but i was curious those that have the Pioneer 112D drives, if i purchase one and add it to my macpro will i need to install any additional software or firmware or is it ready go out of the box? (aside from double checking the jumper pin)

thanks!

=)

My first Mac Pro that I sent back had pioneer drives, and this one has optiarc drives.

When ejecting, the pioneer seemed more solid, but the optiarc drives are quieter when watching DVDs. Both are equally loud when listening to CDs.

Optiarc 7170A that wouldn't reliably write CDs in OSX or WinXP. Replaced by AppleCare with a Pioneer 112D. Nice.

It should just work.

I had both. First Mac Pro had Optiarc, second one has Pioneer inside. Optiarc made less noise than Pioneer. I didn´t noticed any other differencies.. Pioneer rocks also, I think it could be a little bit faster (based on a cd-rom ripping)...
