I have a 2008 macbook (white) and its going in for repair (got the common crack in the topcase to the right of the touchpad). I was thinking that maybe I can get (pay extra?) the new topcase for the october 09 whitebooks, with the glass touchpad. Do you guys think they are compatible?

The trackpad alone will disqualify it, sorry. OTOH, I took my 2.13 whitebook into the applestore two weekends ago, and they installed a replacement topcase that was thicker than the original. The genius tole me the new case should take care of the cracking problem.

Set the genius bar appointment for first thing in the morning, preferably on a weekday. This may give you a better chance of getting your case repaired while you wait.

No, it is not compatible. It's two different components.

Do you have a picture of it? :)

The new whitebooks are 'unibody' which means the topcase and bottom case are one piece. So no, it would be incompatible with the previous one in which the top case detaches and is replaceable.
