1,1 2006 Mac Pro 5150 to 5160 Require Firmware Update?

As the title explains, does the 1,1 Mac Pro have the correct microcode for the 5160's to be detected properly, or do I need to update the firmware to 2,1?


The 5160's are merely $20-22 with free shipping on eBay, not bad for another 1,000 in Geekbench Eh?

No need to update firmware at all. 5160s are a good upgrade for you. I'd say even better than 5355s in many areas.

Having 5160s myself, I wouldn't even consider 5355s leaving the 5365s as the only viable upgrade path. Even then, running at the same clock speed, I'd only notice a difference in apps that use more than four cores. In my normal use, only Handbreak would utilize the extra cores.
