Apple hasn't released a simple "bug fix" yet, so is there a possibility that 1.1.4 has simply fixed certain things like the SMS order all while laying the groundwork for the SDK, whenever it may come?

Yeah but it had to prepare for something, unless they made this update to fix some problems that couldn't wait until however long it's going to take the SDK update to come out...
