Hi! I´m happily typing this (first post) on my my new 1,5ghz 12-inch PowerBook (totally in love with her). I have several PowerPC Macs but all of them are laptops and i´m planning to buy a powermac for audio work. What would you choose between a Dual 1,25ghz MDD G4 and a 1,8ghz G5, and why? Is the G4 limited to 2gb of RAM? I have considered a dual or quad G5 too, but i´m afraid of the liquid cooling system and the noise (i´m going to record and mix in my bedroom so minimize ambient noise is a must). Thanks for any advice, and please excuse my english!

All I can tell you is it have a dual 1.25 G4 and it is pretty loud! Not sure how it compares to the G5 though.

While I have no personal experience with either machine, I have an older model G4 tower and it gets pretty loud at times (it's pretty loud to begin with admittedly). The LCS sounds like it would be quieter, but as you likely know there is a good chance you'll need to do repairs to it at some point. From what I understand, air cooled G5s are pretty loud, or they can get to be at least. My best recommendation would be looking to see if you can find firsthand experiences of people who have used these for music production. Sound on Sound might be a good place to look, as they have been around quite a while and do many equipment reviews.
