I have just purchased a used 2019 MacBook Pro 1.4. As it arrived with the previous owner's login etc, I powered it down and pressed Command+R. Instead of getting the Utilities screen, I ended up being asked for my Apple id - which it then required me to reset. I am now in a loop where it refuses to accept my wifi password. If I power down using the switch at the end of the touch-bar, and then restart, it goes straight to the wifi login, even if I restart with Command+R, and refuses to accept the password. I have rebooted the wifi router twice. Other devices are finding and using the wifi - iMac, iPhone, MacBook Air. I am definitely using the correct password, as I am using a photo on my iPhone, of the password printed on the back of the router!

Any ideas more than welcome!

Ian

You could try ethernet instead.

I've heard the recovery program requires certain kinds of wifi passwords and such that not all people have. You could try it with a different router.

Did you at some point select a language? It's possible the keyboard is set to a different language or that some character isn't being properly read for some reason.

There should be a flag on the top right in the menu bar when started in recovery mode. Is it the correct one? Also there should be a checkbox in the window where it asks the WiFi password to show it when you type it in.

The ethernet is an idea, thanks. My router has an RJ45 socket, of course. I have now ordered a USB-C/Thunderbolt to RJ45 lead. We will see.

Have you tried opening a hotspot with your iPhone and then connect to it?
Sadly whatever I do the only screen I get on the MacBook is the one with just the wifi login. Nothing else at all is on the screen. I have tried having other connected devises in proximity, or even connected via Thunderbolt, but no change.
