im just making an assumption that the 1.6ghz and 1.8ghz G5's should be even quieter then the dual 2ghz.. since it has 2 less fans?

am i right?

also is the 1.8 worth the extra over the 1.6..

i dont think ill even use pic-x.. 4 dimm slots seems like more then enough.. for me..

Well the g5 cooling system is based on heat sensors and automatically adjusting fans, and since two processors produce more heat than one, with an equal number of fans it would be louder.

It is possible that having 2 extra fans allows the fans to run slower thus making the machine quieter, but it would be my guess that the dual processor machine is louder.

quiter = yes

I would go for the 1.8 myself. If you are going to keep the machine for 3-5 years, the extra expandability and proc/bus speed will probably be needed.

I'd also assume that the dual 2.0GHz G5 is louder because it requires the fans to cool them more frequently.

You may as well go for the 1.8GHz G5 if you're already going to be paying that much money. I hate how there's not a dual 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz for the prices they're at now (or a bit higher, say at $2400 and $2700), and a cheaper single 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz G5 option. I think the 2.0GHz is really the best deal since it gives you soooo much more computer for an additional $600 over the price of a single 1.8GHz, but go for the one you can afford.

4 fans for one CPU seems excessive. I just assumed it, looking at the diagrams and all.
