Well, as a graduation gift, my parents are willing to buy me anything Apple related upto $1000.

So I have narrowed my decision to:

1) 24" Apple Cinema Display
2) 64GB iPad

I currently have a 15" MBP. I dont really need these for any specific purposes, just for fun.I could either create a Desktop Setup with my MBP and display, so its one of those desktop, then unplug and BAM, protability!

or

I could get the iPad, looks pretty cool. Could be useful for watching movies/Youtube, and surf the web while in bed or really anywhere else with WIFI.

So if you were me, what would you chose and why!

Well, I'd choose the 64GB ipad, but that depends on what computer you currently have.. let's say you have a 13 mbp, then I'd recommend the ACD. But If you have a 15-17mbp, or a mac pro, or a imac, then I'd say ipad all the way.

lol protability. where are you graduating from again?

I would take the cash, and If you REALLY wanted one, get the 500 wifi Ipad and pocket the rest of the cash.

Cash is king son!

well, I may get an iPad then...

Might get the 32GB and then get some accesories like wireless keyboard, mStand, some new Bose speakers...

i was thinking of the 24" in cinema display as my first thought....but then i realized if i was going to use an external screen (it would be for movies) i would connect it to my 64" flat screen hd tv ;) so IPAD it is!

Haha true. Now that I think about it, I have a nice 42" Full HD LCD right beside my computer setup, so I could just use that for things such as movies

Since it's a graduation gift, ask them to buy you something that would last...like a nice Swiss watch, for example. A fine mechanical watch is a nice memento that would still be serving you well 20 years down the road. On the other hand, a monitor or gadget like the iPad that you buy today would be obsolete in 2 years.

Get the iPad, and if you want a desktop display for your MBP (I would), use your own money and get something from Dell. Dell's displays are ugly, but you can get a good quality 24'' display from them for $250.

Ya I was considering getting the Dell U2311H with my own money.

It looks like an OK monitor for its price. $339 for a 23" IPS monitor isnt bad, although its not LED like the Apple display. But its not like I am some hardcore editer, so I think I should be ok.

get new iPhone that will be announced on June 7th and then rest in a gift card mode, I bet you'll find something you really want from apple later on

oh yeah you can also invest into software with spell check :)

I completely agree with this. Any specific reason why the $1000 has to be spent on Apple-related products? Graduation is always something to remember. Technology just doesn't have the same lasting effect as a watch or something like that.
