Attached below is a screenshot, it’s been showing “1” for weeks. How do I get rid of that? I’m on watchOS 10 on a series 4 Hermes Apple Watch and my iPhone is a 15 Pro running iOS 18.2. Thanks in advance

Not the same thing, but I have a 1 stuck on my Mail app on my phone, even though there are no unread mail. Probably a bug.

How can we fix this? There were several iOS updates in the last couple of months and none of them have fixed this.

I've had this happen on occasion over the years and it clears up on its own. In my case, I suspect it's from unread messages I deleted that were hanging around as recently deleted. Those get permanently deleted after a month or so, or can be manually deleted beforehand.

You could also try temporarily changing to a different watch face to see if that refreshes it. Or try the old "turn feature off and then back on again" trick with things like changing the messages settings in settings on the watch app in the phone, then back again. Or just wait it out.

This happens to me once or twice a month. I send myself a message and then delete it and it goes away.

You have more than likely deleted a text directly from your iPhone without reading / opening it first.

You’ll have to go into recently deleted, recover the most recent text(s) - open them up then delete.

That has worked every time for me and now I’m mindful to open them prior to deleting them.

I just looked in my recently deleted and don’t see any unread messages. I recovered some of them anyway as per your recommendation but deleted them again as I didn’t see any unread ones and it didn’t fix the stuck “1” on the watch

I hate that it didn’t work.

That fixes mine every time.

Is your watch also on watchOS 10? I can’t update to watchOS 11 because my series 4 Hermes Apple Watch is not eligible for the watchOS 11 Update. My iPhone on the other hand is a 15 Pro running iOS 18.2 so I’m thinking this is some sort of a software incompatibility between the two OS’s

No, I recently upgraded from a S4 to the S10 and it’s running the most updated WatchOS

How long has your watch shown the “1”?

I ask because it could be an older text that was deleted on accident prior to it being open.

I walked through every step you mentioned before I started to check the recently deleted and recovered them, opened them up then deleted them again.

Hope you figure it out because I completely understand how annoying that is.
