Hey everyone,

I have a Studio Display and would like to use it for both a Mac Studio, and MacBook Pro.

Typically, I wouldn't mind hot swapping a cable into the machines, but my Mac Studio is tough to access.

Is there a "go-to" solution for this "issue?" My first thought was purchasing a Thunderbolt dock with at least 1 downstream TB port, and 2 traditional TB ports. And simply sit the dock on my desk and hot swap the 2 traditional ports while keeping Studio on the downstream.

I'm wanting to buy a dock that doesn't compromise on functionality, resolution, hz etc. Does anyone have recommendations?

Thank you.

I wonder what Apple's official recommendation would be. Buy a second display? Sorry, I have no grand idea for this setup. My solution is to not buy Apple displays. It feels like everything else has more than one input.

Can't speak for the studio display, but I've got a mini running as a semi-headless and mostly accessing it via VNC/Screen sharing. There is a lag, but mostly adequate for my purposes.

I use a LG 5k but essentially the same system.

I just got a short Thunderbolt 3 extension cable, and use that for hot-swapping in a more convenient location.

Elegant? Maybe not. But dirt-simple and cheap 😉
