Does anybody know why current 1 TB drives continue to get more expensive?
I checked the following 3 drives and only the price of the Hitachi seems to fall slowly:

1. Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C 1000GB, SATA II (HDS721010CLA332)
- price seems to be stable since mid november 2009. Lowest price today: 67,- Euro.

2. Western Digital Caviar Black 1000GB, SATA II (WD1001FALS)
- lowest price was 74,- Euro around october 2009. Lowest price today: 81,- Euro.

3. Samsung SpinPoint F3 1000GB, SATA II (HD103SJ)
- lowest price was 59,- Euro back in october 2009. Lowest price today: 69,- Euro.

I know that the WD drive is highly recommended by a lot of people in this forum but is it really worth this premium price?
I'll upgrade the 250 GB Seagate hd in my good ol' late 2006 iMac with one of the drives listed above.

I've got two 1TB Blacks in my Pro but I think I won't get Black drives again.
They are quite fast (about 100MB/s) but extremely noisy. Too noisy for me as they are the loudest part of my whole computer.
That's why they will be replaces by larger Green drives soon.
The 2TB Greens will make a nice replacement. Same speed, less noise.

BTW: Bought the 1TB Blacks for 64€ excl. VAT back in September.

Yepp, I'm a bit scared by the noisiness of the WD too. At least my iMac is still silent so a noisy hd would ruin my peaceful desk. ;)
Looks like I have to decide between the Hitachi C and the Samsung F3. Tough choice!

64€ w/o VAT seems to be ok, not overwhelming but ok.

I finally ordered the Samsung F3 for 73,- € incl. shipping.
The drive got of lot of praises and that's what made me buy it.
I hope I can get it before the weekend so I can let my iMac fly again. ;)

Target has the 1TB MyBook for US$94. I think is has the 1TB Scorpio in there. So I don't think prices are going up. Needless to say that I bought the same external HD at BestBuy for $120. Doh....

I was looking for an internal replacement of my aging Seagate 250 GB. I think the Samsung F3 will be a nice drive and a nice speedup.

Maybe inflation is coming into play?

Since last week the prices of the Hitachi and the Samsung drive started to fall. Curious to see that the price of the Western Digital Caviar Black is still rising. At least here in Germany.

Definitely not woth the price. Any 1 TB drive will be just fine.
