Hi,

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as being able to insure a laptop that is just over 1 year old? I have just moved to the UK from Ireland and have started freelancing so am carrying my laptop around every day. However, any companies I've contacted only insure if the machine is 3 or 6 months old. I live in rented accommodation so home insurance isn't an option.

Thanks

Well they usually don't offer insurance for that old a machine because it's a big liability seeing it's out of warranty most likely, etc. That said, I have used Safeware, but I'm not sure if they offer policies outside of the United States.

Why does renting exclude you from insurance?

Perhaps you have very different regulations in the UK. In Canada, my wife and I were able to get renters insurance with ease, to ensure that we'd be covered. It's basically the same as a home owner policy, as it covers things for which our landlord is responsible.
