Just letting anyone interested know that Apache on my machine is now working. I upgraded today from Mavericks, a fully woking Apache + Mysql + php install, with a number of virtual hosts.
After spending most of the afternoon fiddling with this it's all working.

Roberts-Mini:apache2 robert$ httpd -v && php -v && mysql -v
Server version: Apache/2.4.9 (Unix)
Server built: Aug 29 2014 18:22:05
PHP 5.5.14 (cli) (built: Aug 30 2014 05:21:09)
Copyright (c) 1997-2014 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.5.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2014 Zend Technologies
Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 173
Server version: 5.6.19 Homebrew

The biggest headache was Apache, then the V-hosts of course. But it's all working, so if anyone wants a hand - let me know.

It's mostly to do with the new http.conf file and old .htaccess file directives.
