Hello, I just purchased a brand new MacBook 12-inch 2017 base model. Right now it's running 10.13.4 and will not show an update in the App Store for 10.13.6. It will also not find any update when I try the "sudo softwaresupdate -ia" command. Thirdly, I tried to download the update via Apple support page but upon attempting install it says that it cannot be installed on the HD. Any clue why this is happening? I updated to 12.8 iTunes upon initially launching the App Store to find the OS update. Surely that's not the problem?

I've attached an image of what happens when I try to install the download from the Apple support page.

Get the OTHER 10.13.6 update.
Apple always provides two different system updaters.
One is known as a delta update, and ONLY installs on 10.13.5
The OTHER update is the combo updater which will install on any version of 10.13, up to 10.13.6
Get that one here.

And, you also always have the option of downloading the full installer for 10.13.6, creating a bootable installer from that, then booting to your installer to do a full reinstall, which would mean that you are completely up-to-date, at least to 10.13.6

Stupid ass me...I just bought it two hours ago...the disk is currently encrypting so that's why I can't install.

That may be part of it, but you still can't install the 10.3.6 updater, unless you already have 10.13.5 installed
You have to use the combo 10.3.6 updater for your update.

I'll give it a whirl tomorrow. Thanks for the advice.

Tried your suggestion this morning and it worked! Thank you.
