10.3.5 Finder lock up

When I re-boot my G4, everything works fine until I open any folder window, then I get the "Spinning Beach Ball"? I can launch programs, just can't do anything that has to do with the finder... If I turn off my the ethernet port in system prefs, then force quit and relaunch finder it is fine... Has anyone else had this problem and found a way to fix it. I have tried dumping preference files and any caches that I can... thanks...
