10.4.11 Finder Crashing every 2 Mins and restarting

Hi,

I've got a problem with finder on my 2003 G4 iMac running 10.4.11 constantly crashing.

I'm totally scratching my head at the problem and can't make heads or tails of the crash log. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any help in this matter will be greatly appreciated. I cannot tell you when the crashes first started to happen though as the iMac is my family's and I'm at Uni most the time so only use it when i come back for the odd weekend and holidays that i use it. All i know is that this wasn't happening two weks ago!
 
Like I said I don't use this computer often as it is my family's (I have my own Mac Pro) and the last time i used it was in February and everything was fine and as far as i know they haven't installed anything as i don't think they know how ;) . Other than maybe any system updates that have come out.

The last time this machine was formatted was last year but I'd like to hold off reinstalling os x until every other option is exhausted.

Since my last post i have also verified and repaired the disk permissions but the problem is still occurring.
 
I would use DiskWarrior or Drive Genius 2 to de-frag your directory and make sure everything is in order.
 
Just as an update I got my family to log into their accounts and it's only my account that has the problem with the crashing finder.

I found a article on the net where a guy said moving all his files off his desktop fixed the problem but that hasn't happened.

It's all really odd and as another slight oddity when i try and do a verify disk check it crashes saying the operation failed when attempting to stop. What the hell is going on?
 
Since you are on 10.4.11 this sounds like a documented error that happens after you install the QuickTime 7.6 update AND have a preference pane called Stuffit AVR.

When you are logged into the crashing account, quickly open your System Preferences- if you see a pane for Stuffit AVR in the bottom section, click it to open it and select the option to turn it "Off". If you have this pref pane that should take care of the crashing. Hope so for your sake!:)

I'm pretty sure that Stuffit AVR is installed on that machine. I've gone back to Uni now but i'll check (and hopefully fix the problem) when I go back for easter.

Thanks for you help but that's a pretty random error, if only the bloody crash log could of said it was having a conflict with Stuffit AVR.....

Yes it is an odd error that seems to only affect systems running 10.4.11 with Quicktime 7.6 but luckily someone at the Apple Discussions list discovered the fix shortly after QT 7.6 came out back in I think January. Just one of those things I guess.

It's only annoying as I didn't know what updates my family had installed or how it would of affected my system that was working fine before. Thanks for your help though, if I had done what the others had said i would of reinstalled mac os x ands still have this problem!!
 
Wow. This has been driving me crazy for almost two months. I couldn't figure out what the heck was going on. I just turned off Stuffit AVR and now, voila, everything's fine. Thank You!!!

I have been scratching my head on this same problem, googled the error thrown and found this thread. Confirmed version of QT and turned off StuffitAVR... it worked.
