A co-worker's Mac has a strange GUI bug since upgrading to 10.4.7. Maybe it's just a setting that I'm missing but it's driving me nuts trying to figure it out. Whatever window is active or icon is selected has a black rule around it. Also, under the Apple Menu there are doubles of "Restart," Shut Down," and "Log Out." Is this all just a user-customizable setting or a bug in the system. I'd rather not have to reinstall the system.

Edit - I just tried logging in as another user and don't see the black rule around anything. User setting?

Um, repair permissions?

Tried that already. I guess the simple thing to do would be just to delete the user and create a new one. I still would like to know what's causing this though.

This had me stumped a couple of days ago. To get rid of it follow these instructions:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Go to Universal Access
  3. Set "VoiceOver" to "Off"

Should be fixed now.

Oh geez - I should have thought of that. I'm a little slow this morning - no coffee yet. Many thanks PatrickF. Thread closed.
