so i just updated to 10.4.8 and now everything is screwy. every time i try to open ichat, it opens for a few seconds, logs me in, and then unexpectedly quits. i tried running macjanitor, but whenever i click the button to allow allow tasks, it closes unexpectedly too! to summarize:

- i'm on a rev. B g5 imac
- i just updated to 10.4.8
- apps keep unexpectedly quitting
- i tried macjanitor, it won't let me run it
- i tried restarting, it didn't work

HELP!

okay did that now, and still having the same problem. do i need to restart after repairing permissions?

Normally I'd say no, but it wouldn't hurt. I'm not sure if it will help, though.
What other programs do you have the spontaneous crashing with?

Edit: Resetting PRAM

just restarted for the first time since repairing permissions... still didn't help.

should i reset the PRAM? i dunno if i wanna lose all of those settings...

any other ideas?

add mail and address book to the list.

No problems with Mail or Address book on my rev B iMac G5, (no haxies, except possibly Screen Spanning Doctor 0.33, though i think that's now included in OS X...), I don't use iChat so don't know if that has problems.

Resetting PRAM will not cause you to loose settings. I'd certainly give that a shot.

just loaded 10.4.8 on G4 1.25 with 512 MB RAM and noticed P-shop CSII hangs. Can't open any files. The work computer is hooked to a college network, but that shouldn't be a problem, right?

Did disk permissions, deleted prefs, plist, downloaded latest adobe patch v. 9.0.2

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Matt

Photoshop CS2 works fine (as normal) for me under 10.4.8 on a G4 1.5 w/1.25GB RAM. FYI

well, i downloaded and installed the 10.4.8 combo upgrade (ppc), and everything seems to be working okay again. the internet is a little slow, but that might just be my college network.

maybe . . . Hope you get your problem figured out.

Here is what happened with mine, and I take it that it is still weird: the super drive can't have a CD in it or else p-shop won't open an image. Infact, p-shop was hung, I ejected the disk (which wasn't being used for anything) and the image opened.

?!

I just installed 10.4.8 on a mac book and it won't boot any more. It seems to be hanging whilst trying to load the network drivers.

Fortunately I have a firewire drive with a system backup on it (which I am using right now), but I need to try to get my primary drive fixed so that I can boot off of that again.

I've never had a problem like this from an Apple OS update. 🙁

I finally managed to get it fixed by downloading the full update and manually applying it to the drive where the previous install failed.

I don't know what went wrong there, but a least I have it up again.

There's a good lesson there - Always keep a bootable backup on firewire/USB at hand, especially when doing a system update. 😉

Lots of buggy software coming out of Cupertino lately. Personally, I have not had any issues with 4.8 yet, but now that I said that, I'm bound to have lots of problems.
