10.5.7 can't move files, spotlight gone, cant print

so I am try to fix a macbook that was updated to 10.5.7 it appears there is an issue with finder, files or folders can't be move (nothing is locked), spotlight icon and time are gone from the menu bar, no programs will print...
I have tried restarting, repairing permissions, removing safari beta 4 (downgraded back to 3) with no luck... trying the combo update is my next thought?

any other ideas?

Did you ever solve this problem? My dad is having this same issue and I'm trying to troubleshoot over the phone.
