I just wanted to check that this is correct. When I first set up my iPadPro and had it connected to my iMac directly via USB, it was charging. When I connected it today, the iPad now says Not Charging. Are the days of charging over USB connections now gone and the charging brick is our only option?

Needs more power i suspect.
It will probably work if you have USB C ports that can supply the power.
But yes, i can confirm that it won't charge on my mac or PC either.
Maybe try a different USB port.
