My MBP normally operates idle around say 120 deg F... and warms to maybe 160 under heavy usage. I upgraded to 10.6.1. today, and now it's sitting in between 140 and 160 with very light usage... is this a problem? If so should I attribute it to 10.6.1? I was very happy with my cool temps before, and am now a little worried and unhappy.

Mines been running hotter under light usage on 10.6 and 10.6.1 but under heavy usage it gets to the same temp as it did on 10.5 so I'm not to worried about. The 13mbp probably shouldn't be getting that hot. My temps are with the dedicated graphics card, with the integrated it doesn't get that hot.

Check the Activity Monitor. Flip it into "All processes" mode, and sort by CPU usage. See if anything's using more CPU than it should - a runaway (incompatible) app is the most common cause of large, overall increases in temperature.
