Since I updated to 10.6.6, I've been what appears to be heavy read/write access to my internal drive (I've been watching it with iStat Menus) seemingly at random for the first 20-30 minutes of use after booting up my machine and logging in. It also occurs occasionally well after this period, although not as often.

The hard drive activity is so intense that it denies all applications any access to it, including Finder. This results in the apps and often the entire system freezing until the disk activity stops, which is often after about 15-30 seconds.

I've tried the usual fixes:
  • Permissions Repair
  • Repair Disk
  • Reset PRAM

None of these have had any effect on the issue.

I've read in the Apple forums that some users with the 16:10 aluminium iMacs have been seeing the same issue, possibly some Mac notebooks as well. Has anyone else here been experiencing this extremely annoying problem? It's particularly irritating for me because I use Boot Camp a lot, meaning that I'm having to reboot regularly, so I have to suffer through the problem every time I use Mac OS.

Thanks in advance for any feedback/advice you can give.
