10.6.8 printing problem

I just updated to 10.6.8 since I want to let Lion sort out its problems. I did both the main download and the supplemental download. Now my canon MP 970 printer does not work. I get communications error using wireless or cabled connections. I tried printing from several applications and got the same result. The printer was working fine before the new software

Any suggestions?
