So I got this Kernel Panic on my normally sturdy MacBook early-2008 running 10.6.8. When it happened, I was running VirtualBox with Xubuntu 12.10 doing some heavy system updates (not upgrading to 13.04 yet, just doing routine updates). VirtualBox is up to date, but the Linux guest additions not (although they're installed). Here's the crash dump. Can any of you get any clue out of it?

Bold, that's the process causing it.

If you only get one panic/Crash don't read to much in it, if it happens frequently start to worry.

Interesting. The thing I was doing with Dashboard was use WidgetTerm to run Bash 4.2 (downloaded from MacPorts), and that to run a long MacPorts process of downloading and installing other programs…

Shall I assume that kernel panics normally happen because of buggy kernel and kernel extensions?

It's actually not that hard if it is Software or hardware, if there is only several panics in a year it is Software related, if there are many the chance it is Hardware is much higher, most of the time this can be easily diagnosed if you run a different OS on it, if it is still getting panics on another OS version it is almost sure to be hardware related.
