[10.6] Text Substitution keeps turning off in Mail!

I'm liking Text Substitution and it works great for my needs. However, every time I try to us it in Mail, it doesn't work. I'll go to Edit > Substitutions > Text Replacement and re-select it, and it will work that time. But next time I go to mail, it's no longer selected.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions on a way to fix this?

I am fully up to date on system updates and I have repaired permissions (to fix an unrelated issue).

Edit: It appears to happen when I quit Mail. On relaunch, it is no longer selected.

It's not a preference, so in native form, you have to turn it on each time.

Thanks! That works, for the most part. For some reason, it won't work when I'm typing an email subject (still have to manually turn it on each time for that). But in the body of the email, it appears to have taken.
