Ever since the 10.8.2 update when im doing any 64 bit applications and theres any sort of sustained load my macbook pro will do some funky skip where the screen goes black for a second or two, comes back on and starts to drag. When I push cmd opt esc to try to break the inevetable crash Ill get the window and my 2010 MBP will just hard shut down like I held down the power button. Ive been monitoring temps because it seems like an overheating issue but Ive never seen the temp go above 80c and pretty much plateau at 72-75c. I downloaded SMC fan control as well and kicked up both fans to 6k rpms and they are both operating normally. I popped open the bottom and inspected the fans, they are both clean and they look good. This never happened before the 10.8.2 update and it consistently happens after about 1h of moderate load by either converting/ripping media, backing up to TM, playing a game, or streaming content to a few different tv's through itunes.
While troubleshooting I noticed how crummy the stock fans are in the 2010 MBP and it got me googling to see if anyone has put out any higher quality aftermarket fans for the unibody's. My searches came up blank, anyone have any suggestions?
Im not interested in taking the logic board completly out to apply some new thermal paste, and my MBP has never had issues before the most recent OS update. Is there a way to roll back that update? I do not want to mess with a restore from backup.
Mostly my post here is looking to see if anyone else is experiencing these unusual lockups/hard reboots while under load on a MBP.
