Hi all.
Updated to 10.8.4 about three days ago, with a clean install and a recovery from a previous backup image to try and fix the problems.
Firstly, the computer takes around 5 minutes to boot up, getting to the login screen instantly, but remaining on a white screen where the cursor is not able to be moved.
Secondly, when putting the computer to sleep, the fans instantly go to max RPM at 6000RPM and won't go back down to normal when woken from sleep. To normalise the fan speed the Mac needs to be restarted, which takes a damn long time as indicated above.
I've tried resetting the SMC and PRAM but it's made no difference.
Any suggestions other than to take it to an Apple store?
