I update to 10.9.2 and the only noticeable thing that stopped working right off the bat, is the power button sleep on my MacBook 17" (early 2011)

hmm...

anyone else?

It's designed that way. Press the power button for 2 seconds, and the laptop will go to sleep. Press for 3/3.5 seconds, the 'what do you want to do? shut down or restart?' dialog will appear. 4+, turns off the computer (without a shutdown).

Got used to it

Yeah, I got used to the new behavior back in Mavericks (10.9.0) where you push the button and it just sleeps.

But that has seems to have gone away with this 10.9.2 update (for me).

If I hold it down it pulls up the dialog.

Hmm..

I have tried it now tho and it seems that I just need to hold it a little longer than normal, weird...

Hold it down for 2 seconds and release. This will put the laptop to sleep.

I've noticed on my late 2013 macbook that it takes a longer press to get it to activate sleep mode. I personally welcome this change because sleeping when accidentally pressing it was kind of irritating.

This is stupid functionality on Apples part.

Should be…press and hold for 2 seconds and menu of 3 choices appear. Or, the power button could just be a power button and you close the top for sleep.

Stupid according to you. It seems like a welcome change to many.

The same here. It's annoying, but I understand the intension. But a small notification would have been nice.

But I'm not very good at counting seconds so I might just power off my macbook!

Does option+command+power button still put the computer to sleep? This is how I always used to do it.

And then shift+control+power puts just the display but not the whole computer to sleep. Does that still work?

I'm on ML btw.

Yes and yes. Just tested both shortcuts on 10.9.2. You're good to go (if you decide to upgrade to 10.9.2 from ML).
