Hi all,

I want to upgrade my macbook with an SSD, and decided that it would probably be best to just time it with the production release of 10.9 so I can do a completely clean install. I plan on putting the 320gb traditional drive in the dvd bay to get double the storage.

A few questions on this:

1. It seems like Apple distributes the update via the App store for $19.99 usually. Is there any way to download a standalone file that I can just write to a USB drive to install it? I don't really want to have to install 10.6.8 and then update 10.9 on top of it.

2. I plan to eventually wipe my 320gb drive and use it as a regular data drive. However, when I first boot it up, will having an operating system on it confuse my bootup? I assume I can just select which drive I want the OS to boot on). If anyone has some best practices for this migration let me know. I'm currently planning on simply copying all of my data (music, pictures, docs) over to an external drive and then copying it back. This makes me a bit nervous though because I'll obviously only have 1 copy of my data available for a brief period of time.
