The million dollar question is whether or not these adapters contain a digital to analog converter like the apple ones do. If not, they won't output analog audio.

yeah thats the only thing i need one for my Onkyo dock on my home theatre

I prefer not to have to use cable adapters whenever possible, so ordered a 2nd dedicated $9.99 iTronz USB to Lightning cable for iPhone 5 instead. The one from Apple costs nearly twice the price ($19).
I plan to dedicate the one Apple includes with the iPhone 5 for 'at home' charging, and keep the 2nd one plugged into my car's cigarette lighter USB port. I'm waiting until the dust settles (aka:reviews are out) before considering a 3rd party 30 pin to Lightning cable adapter.

Apple isn't going to include one.

He means Lightning cable not an adapter.

This. I too was wondering how Apple pulled it off: how could an all digital connection provide analog audio out? Then I saw the DAC converter is in the adapter itself... so the $29 price make more sense now. I think some people are going to be really upset when their $10 eBay adapter does work with their audio system.

Does or doesn't? I'll wait to see if they work with audio
