£1000 2006/10 MDP or Brand new UBMP

I am about to buy a MBP and been offered a second hand fully refurb MBP bought in February 2007. Was wondering what the advice is on this.

The brand new UBMP is currently going at £1,369. I am thinking it is better to buy the brand new one than spend a £1000 on a two year old machine. Perhaps I misunderstand something but is this a reasonable think to do for a difference of £369.

Firstly it's UMBP (Unibody MacBook Pro) :)

£1000 for a 2007 MBP is VERY expensive IMO. You can get 2008 MBP's off ebay for around £600 - £700 so if money is an issue, I'd look there. Also, other than the screen quality issues, a Unibody MacBook at £929 would beat the 2007 MBP hands down.
 
£1000 is way overpriced.

Keep an eye on the refurb store at about 8am and every now and then they have early 2008 MBP's with full warranty for £880. That's what I got. Had a few problems but Applecare sorted all those out.

The machine being offered is worth £700-£800 tops depending on spec and if it has extended applecare. If no applecare then walk away from that machine anyway as you are asking for trouble if anything goes wrong.

I paid from ebay and met the seller a late 2008 unibody macbook pro for £1060. Brand new sealed machine built in Feb 2009. You can not get better then that. It was cheaper then my HE pricing.

Thanks for the information and my bad on the "UMBP" typo. New to Macs so still teaching my fingers on the acronymns

Thanks GlynJones for this. Very helpful suggestions and as I am in no hurry to buy until mid next month, I will give it a try looking at the refurb store every morning.

UMBP - Prepared for Shipment (UK)

How long does it take typically to move from Prepared for Shipment?. Can't wait for this as my last 5 year old DELL went belly up just after I ordered.

haha it's like your Dell threw it's dummy out the pram after realising it's being replaced by a Mac :D

Thanks. I had HE discount (still registered at uni though graduated sometime back) so deal went from £2,231.01 without discount to £1,721.55 inc VAT and 3yrs Applecare.
