i am going to buy a 13" MBP for school this fall and i would like to know which warranty i should get and where to buy the laptop. i live about 5 min away from a future shop and about 45 min away from an apple store

Future shop: at future shop they have a promotion for a free microsoft office student and the guy at the store gave me a great deal on there warranty, he told me he would give me 4 years warranty for 299$ whereas apple it is 218$ with student discount for only 3 years. future shop warranty covers more like power surge and a no lemon policy

Apple store: apple has the free ipod touch promo and i get a student discount on the laptop + warranty

so which one is better and i would also like to know about there customer service and which one is has faster repairs. the apple store is furthur than future shop
thanks
p.s any experiances with apple or future shop will also be helpful

I bought the Futureshop warranty on my MacBook 3 years ago. When the motherboard went it took them weeks to fix it and get it back to me and they lost my startup discs.

Few months back the harddrive went on the same Macbook. It was out of warranty at this point so I took it to the Apple Store. They replaced the hard drive and surprised me by replacing my case which had a crack. No charge and was ready the same day.

Futureshop warranty = never again

i have ehard of several people taking there macs to a apple store while getting close to the 3 year mark on there apple car and having had a few major fixes over those years and getting a brand new computer =D i will be getting apple care with my macbook pro when i get it next week =D

On my old white macbook, I had blatant water damage on the topcase and multiple cracks appearing very often. They replaced the topcase 12 times in two years. The cracks were actually caused by a heavy plastic hardcase (made by speck). Applecare is the best. End of story. I will be getting applecare for my MBP right before the limited 1-year warranty is up.

I would have kept the MB, except that when I sent it in for a new inverter board, they decided to take the logic board out (for seemingly no reason), and they found corrosion on the underside of the logic board. They voided my warranty right then and there.

Thanks for the advice I was going to buy the future shop warranty but then I realized how bad it was :)
