Received call from woman on behalf of SJobs

I sent sjobs@apple.com an email explaining that prior to 4.1 I hadn't experienced prox issues and that now I was having them - experiencing a lot of uncalled for button pushing while walking and talking, as well as the screen seeming to flash on and off even while I'm just sitting there talking.

I was nice about, making sure to say that I do indeed love the device but that after the update it seems to have tried to fix a problem I never had.

I just received a voicemail from a woman in Austin, TX saying she was calling on behalf of Steve Jobs and that she would like to talk about my iPhone issues . Ironically, I must not have had any service when she called because I just suddenly received a voicemail. She says I may call her back when I get th chance.

Has this happened to anyone else?

My friend who switched to Mac received a flickering 27" iMac back in December. I advised him to email Jobs and he got an email from an Executive Relations person and gave him his number and extension to talk about it. They prioritized his replacement and marked it to be tested before it shipped out.

Are you jailbroken? Maybe there is a way to retrieve the voicemail. I wonder if thats possible. You know showing a picture wont prove anything. You can see "her name" as the voicemail person but that could be you assigning that name to ANY RANDOM number of course.

Just saying and not calling you a liar or judging you.

But unless you can retrieve the actual voicemail with audio playback, no one will believe nor care enough. Not that you care of course if others believe what you are saying or not.

what? why would there be a name? she's not a contact of mine.

look up the number, I'm sure it will show Apple Executive Relations Austin, TX
 
That's a legit apple callcenter number.

they have a callcenter in texas.

so far IMO this story is legit.
 
and i'm not posting this to feel special.


i figure i can't be the only person this has happened to. probably happens to lots as long as you are courteous in your email.


edit: and no i'm not jailbroken. although i wish i had so i could downgrade from 4.1 to 4.0
 
Old voicemails can be recovered. You're holding it wrong.

Had this happen to me with an issue with a MP 2.66 Quad a 2 or 3 years ago after sending SJ an irritated , yet professional email. Had a new machine in 48 hrs. Forgot her name, but definitely Executive Relations. Never have received a response for anything from SJ in person.:apple:

I'm sure SJ isn't even the one who sorts through his emails. They probably have a staff that does and selects ones that are relatively nice, yet complaining about some issue and direct them to Exec Relations


edit: do you guys seriously see that many fake stories to on here to think that I would waste time making it up that a lady from Texas Exec Relations called me? it's not like I said SJ himself knocked on my door. i've rarely even posted here, and if you can somehow check my posts from this week you'll notice they are all about the prox sensor after 4.1
 
Steve Jobs said during the July press conference that Apple deployed several engineers around the world to customer's houses (with permission) who had either called or emailed Apple regarding the Antenna issue in an attempt to get feedback.

So Apple calling you regarding the proximity sensor issue is not out of the ordinary, I think they would just like real world feedback to try and get to the bottom of this issue.

i plan on giving her a call back. i wonder if they are in on Saturdays.

I sent an email to sjobs@apple.com when my 2 yr old iMac died and I was told the cost to fix it would be $1400 just for the part.

I received a call from a woman from Apple Canada.

She asked me few questions and told me she'd see what she could do for me and call me back in a few days.

A week later she called back to tell me there was nothing she could do.

The frustrating part was that the answers to her questions were all in the email. There was no need to call me and get my hopes up when she should have known there was nothing she could do.

Left me feeling even worse than if I had received no response at all.

Haha, yeah I'm really not asking for a new phone here - I just want my phone to perform like it did pre 4.1 without the "software fix" for the prox. I never mentioned it in my original email nor did I ask for a response... in fact, here is the text from my email to sjobs@apple.com:

"I've been very happy with my iPhone 4 - one of the lucky few who
hadn't experienced any prox issues on 4.0. Received my first call post
4.1 update and now it seems hypersensitive. Screen sometimes does not
turn off at all, flickers other times, and walking while talking on
the phone is seemingly impossible without causing the screen to flash
on and off.

Thanks for the phone and your time."

I received no email reply - just the phone call (voicemail) a little while ago. i guess they just pulled my phone # based on my name and apple ID or something. A little scary actually...

This happened to me in 2007. My PowerMac G5 developed a coolant leak and one of my CPUs as well as the PSU were fried. I took it to a local Mac repair store who quoted me somewhere in the $1,200-$1,400 range. I sent an email to sjobs@apple.com regarding my experience and how I expected my top-of-the-line Apple product to last more than three years. The next day I received a call from Apple Executive Relations regarding my email and that they would pay for the repair. I gave them the name of the local repair shop, and in 2-3 days my repaired PowerMac was ready for pick-up free of charge.

This is why I am an Apple fan for life. Apple didn't have to do this. My computer was 2 years out of warranty. The fact that they did this and at a very fortuitous time, no less, showed me that Apple isn't just concerned about their bottom line. This is also why I do not mind paying a little more for my Apple products. Since this experience I have gotten my best friend, sister, and mom to all purchase iPhones and iMacs. I think it's a safe bet that Apple has recouped its investment in my repair many times over in the business I sent their way as a result.
 
Just curious, how would they get your phone number in the first place? Did you include that on your email?

no, as i said above, i never included my phone number. I'm assuming that since my email is the same as the one used for my Apple ID they were able to acquire it that way.

like I said, pretty scary...

i never even wanted a reply, i just wanted to make it known that the software fix was applied to all phones when mine seemingly had no issues to begin with. it seemed to make my phone hypersensitive.
 
Yep, got one of those calls shortly after I emailed sjobs in regards to my iphone 4 after launch day. Says something to the effect that theyre with apples executive office or ..Exact same number they called me from, except I dealt with a guy named ryan. Theyre helpful to a point. After a few exchanges at the apple store, ryan had a iphone 4 shipped to the apple store for me(new) and supposedly the apple store was to ship the phone back to their engineering dept so they could get to the bottom of it, needless to say I still have the same problem!
