1013 error

hi guys
friend passed a 3g to me that wont restore and errors on 1013. he said i got up to message saying something like " cant use iphone, restore needed) phone working fine last night. then he got the 1013 error on restore.
i have tried removing gs.apple from host file, dfu mode etc but still 1013 error!
any ideas guys as to how we revive this?

Try TinyUmbrella

In the advanced tab you can check or uncheck set host to cydia.

For 4- IPSW restore the host file needs to point to cydia
For 5+ IPSW restore it needs to point to apple
