Hi everyone,

I am going to buy a macbook pro 15" but want to know when apple are expected or 'will' update their notebook line.

Thanks,
Harry.:apple:

Nah. Not Q1. Prolly Q2.

I have a feeling it'll be refreshed again in April-June 2011. Intel will be RELEASING sandy bridge in Q1 (end of Q1 is still Q1.) It takes a little while from Intel's factory into Apple's computers. Also, If demand is anything like it was for Arrandale, we may be waiting even longer. Patience;)

Next MBP update - hope it's good.

I hope the Next MBP update is good and comes with Sandy Bridge 32nm quad-core. I also hope it has GOOD GRAPHICS and possible lightpeak?

i would hope that apple adds a more higher processor to the mbp, if i recall intel is trying to make the i7 faster and cheaper.

USB 3.0, an HDMI jack, and 1/4" thinner and 20% lighter in weight.

I would not like the next MBP to be thinner at all, I agree on that....The MBP is already thin enough as is, making it more thinner limits it's power envelope because of size/heat issues. Lighter? It's not really what I am asking for.

USB 3.0? Sounds fine. Lightpeak too is good.

An HDMI jack would be contradictory to Apple's interests (although others might use it).

Apple just needs to make a Displayport to HDMI adapter that transfers both audio and video.

Highly doubtful for any of those. The arrandale in the current MBP has a 35W WTD, all sandy bridge quad cores have at least a 45W TDB, i highly doubt they would do that. I think what they will do is have the 2 i5's at 2.5 and 2.6 GHz, and the i7 at 2.7 Ghz. Those are all dual cores and their TDP is 35W. As for good graphics, whats your definition of good? Its pretty hard to get a good graphics card into a laptop the size of a MBP again because of heat issues.

Based off the buyers guide, I'm guessing a minor speed bump in the next 30-60 days and a model refresh in 4/2011.

Just my $.02

No, no no.

I didn't say I wanted a crippled Mac Book Air. I want a fully functional, newly engineered MBP with all the power expected, but 1/4" thinner and 20% lighter.

That is fully doable. It's just a matter of Apple wanting to spend the engineering and manufacturing dollars to do it.

Intel isn't adopting USB 3.0 before 2012. Apple could use 3rd party controller but that could have been done already. Light Peak was also pushed to 2012.

No need for Apple version as 3rd party ones are cheaper.

It will be Q4 2010:

I am also waiting for an update, i hope they update it in oct/nov. But when do you guys think apple will update their MBP?

They last updated them was in may i think.

Early 2011, Sandy Bridge Quad-Core Intel 2800 and 2900 series i7 chips running at 2.3GHz and 2.5GHz, with 8MB of L3 cache. They will be the first Quad-core Mac notebooks and will be over 50% faster than the dual core models. Probably will be released by February 2011.

See this page for more info:

Core i7 Extreme Edition, quad core (4 core, 8 threads) Core i7-2920XM, running at 2.5GHz with 8MB of L3 cache.

This is a 55W processor though, and Apple may choose not to use the 2920XM, and instead use the 2.3GHz 2820QM, which is also quad-core with 8MB of cache.

It's a nice dream, but it is unlikely you will see Quad Cores in the Macbook Pros.

I'd like to see the base price of the 15" drop $100-200 in the next revision. However I feel this isn't going to happen haha.

I expect maybe before Christmas, otherwise not until Q2 2011.

And I doubt it'll be a large upgrade, as usual.

I posted this in an earlier post, but i think its almost a lock that the first sandy bridge CPU's are the dual cores, one i7 and 2 i5's just like they are doing right now.

Those quad cores you were referring to are geared at thicker 17" desktop replacement like laptops. They would NOT mix well with a notebook as thin as the MBP heat wise, not to mention i doubt apple would want to sacrifice their battery life by going with them.

i have a suspicion that the mbp13 will still use c2d although a slightly faster one
