I have a hex-core. I would like external so that I can use on both my Mac Pro and iMac.

I did a search and just found old threads on this board. The threads I did find seem to indicate many problems.

Please advise. Thanks.

I'd suggest an LG burner and a BYTECC USB2/FW400 enclosure. You can try internal, but some folks have had problems. Either way, you'll need Toast.

I had someone tell me before that it is important to use an ESATA connection rather than USB2 or FW - it is much faster is what I was told.

Searching OWC, I found this PCI card:

Also, I was told that Pioneer drives are the way to go - how is this one:

Would I be better off buying my enclosure elsewhere (the mercury one they give is essentially costing me $100)?

eSATA is indeed faster than FW800 or USB2.

But for burning, it's not going to matter because the bus is not the bottleneck. Disc write speed is.

I don't know the specific brand or model they use, but I do know that the Apple Store will set you up with an external Blu-ray player. Something you should possibly look in to.
