I'm about to buy a new 15" 2.66ghz i7 Macbook Pro, Within the next 24 hours!

But I have one question.

The cost of a buying a non-refurb from Amazon is only $40 more then the refurbished from Apple.

Is the $40 worth it?

If youre already going to spend $1869 (I believe) on a laptop, $40 more is only a .02% increase in price you're paying. However, any item that goes back to Apple refurbished will go through the extensive process of making sure it is just like a new computer when you receive it. Apple takes pride in their systems - only thing you may be dissatisfied with are some cosmetic flaws but that's pretty much it!

Right, and when you spend ~$2300 on a unit would you be happy with a few "flaws"? I know I wouldn't be, especially with a $40 price difference.

don't forget how awesome it is to unbox a brand new Apple product

p.s. its a 2% difference

depends on the tax issue as well. If you are saying after tax that the difference is only $40 then its a toss up...you get the same warranty....I have bought refurbs from apple before and the only difference from new is that you dont get the pretty box. But if you didnt compare the tax portion then the amazon will be significantly less...

Go with new from amazon.

I was in this predicament last week. I ended up going with the Amazon purchase over the refurb. I definitely do not regret it at all.

Also remember that depending on your State, buying from Amazon is tax free. So that brings the price down even lower.

The percentage is really irrelevant - what matters is the actual savings. Saving $40 on a $50 item is no better than $40 on a $1869 item - either way you still have $40 left. Yet people will expend far more effort to save $40 on the $50 item than on the $1869. Irrational, yet predictable.
