For about 2 months now i've been keeping track of my finances with a quickly created Numbers Spreadsheet on my MBP. This method works out okay and the true appeal comes in being able to create graphs with specific information I like, but the pitfall comes in needing to physically have my MBP in order to add expenses, of which I usually do at the end of the day.

Truth be told, I'd like a great finance app that has also corresponding iPod & iPad apps so even when i'm out and about throughout my day am allowed to jot down expenses throughout the day, and not be forced to wait till 10pm when I get home to do it all.

Any recommendations? :D:D:D:D

YNAB
MoneyWell
Jumsoft's Money

I am personally using Moneywell (not the iphone app though- not worth the 10 bucks yet)

Best finance app

well I don't know the best, but I know the worst: Quickbooks for Mac. I got stuck with Intuit years ago because that's what my accountant used.
In my 25 years as a Mac guy this is the worst company I've ever dealt with, and the worst software. Laughable features that are LAPPED by programs costing a tenth as much, NO free support, etc etc etc...
I wish Apple would develop an accounting program from the ground up, very frustrating dealing with this white elephant called "Quickbooks."
Avoid...
What's interesting is that Intuit originally made software for Mac only. Mac users put this company on the planet. Now Mac users are an afterthought, Windows versions of the same software have numerous features not implemented in the Mac versions. Hell even Quicken for Windows does stuff QB doesn't.
And guess who owns this lame company? Another lame company: Microsoft.

Im intimated by MoneyWell in all honesty, though it does seems like a great program.
and one more...iBank.
I used this one but never got past the trial mode...But this has got a lot of features.

Moneywell is pretty simple once you get the hang of it really..Envelope budgeting just feels natural here...
I am looking into YNAB...will grab it the next time they have a sale..

I've been on the same quest as you for the past month. I wanted something that worked well between the Mac and iPhone. For the past month the leader has been iBank. I've tried the following;

Squirrel
iFinance
Moneywell
Jumsoft Money

Jumsoft Money was a front runner but the iPhone app didn't allow me to put in a check # if I wrote a check; deal breaker for me. I wrote them and they said it was in the plans to add that but I've learned over the years not to buy software based on promises unless it's in a working beta version you can try. You need to buy on current features.

iBank syncs really well between the two and allows me to enter transactions quickly. You can sync through a network connection or through MobileMe. (Might be able to use dropbox as well but I'm not sure). MobileMe works seamlessly.

Give them a try with their trial offers. I haven't found the perfect app. I like iBank but it's a little on the expensive side. I'm hoping for some holiday deals.

Good luck on the search.

Thank you so much. I've gone ahead and pulled up all the sites and will; do my research, though this isn't gonna be an easy decision. This is really a big decision for me, as whichever I choose will be my finance app for the next 6 months to 2 years (at least).

Quick Update

I've been messing around with some of these programs for the past couple of hours considering this issue is important to me and so far:

iBank: it's nice, I love the look and Mac native feel to it; however seems like Mint.com can do the things iBank can do only automatically. I'm gonna keep using this app for at least a week in hopes it grows on me. What iBank has so far that Mint doesn't is an iPod Touch app where I can add expenses if needed.

YNAB: Looks amazing and is dead simple to use. Only thing though is I can't help but keep thinking back to Mint's interactive charts where I can see different categories laid out for me in pie charts and normal graphs.

Money3: Just seems like a lame version of iBank. Then again, I haven't really fiddled with this app but so far seems kinda blah.

MoneyWell: I haven't used this app yet considering admittedly have been a bit intimidated seeing their long thorough tutorials from their site. It seems that this app is a powerforce which is great; only it seems like time needs to be given in order to learn the app.

Not sure if you've actually tried Mint.com yet but it wouldn't work for me. My credit union doesn't participate so it made the site worthless. Also from what I was able to gather you cannot enter transactions in mint.com it only reports what shows as cleared at your bank. If you're keeping track of your checking account this doesn't give you a pro-active look at what you potentially will have in your account once all the checks clear. I do think they have an iPhone app though.

Just my .02cents FWIW.

Ive been using moneywell for mac(about 1 year) and iphone(just 2 months ago)

though the iphone app is very dependable(lacks many features considering the price!) to the mac app but i still bought it because i always use moneywell for iphone when im not at home.. and just sync it later...

I agree Moneywell is not easy-to-understand but if you are used to it already, you'll get addicted :)
