its free until Jan 1, 2011.. but what do you guys think of this program.. worth downloading?
maybe a review? it seems nice, but im not 100% sure
 
Just curious, why is it that chrome gives a dodgy https warning whenever using the sites login features?

They can at any point go through whatever you're doing just for the hell of it, not likely, but they could.

Edit: Or do you have to go onto the website and claim it as missing first before it's permissioned to start snooping? Havent installed yet

Edit Edit: According to their FAQ, Hidden doesn't do anything until you report it as stolen. I don't plan on reading the entire end user license agreement so I'll just take their word for it.

I know this thread is a little old but I use Prey on my MBP - http://preyproject.com/

Its free and it can do many things including GPS location, iSight picture, tell you what user is logged on, what programs are running, screen shot, and what files have changed in the last XX amount of time.

Never had to use it but I have tested it and it works great, takes about 20-30 minutes from the time you report it stolen/missing before it starts the reports but they come every 5 minutes(if you have it set on the 5 minute intervals) once it starts. Has many options and I believe 3 machines can be watched at once for free, also you install it and its there, no files or anything to manage just remember the website :)
 
I use Prey as well, I haven't had the need to use it either, but in testing, it worked great.
 
can someone outline the pros/cons of each and which features are unique and stuff like that (like a review/comparison) of both products. i looked at prey, but am unsure...

Prey is completly free, I dont use Hidden so I cant tell you anything about it. Prey works when you need it, you install it once then basically forget about it until you need it in which you goto the website, logon and mark stolen/missing. I think there is also an option to use your phone to do it or something and you can make it delete all data if you want.
 
Installed it and clicked on the Test button. Within about 5 mins I could see a map of where it was, plus an iSight picture of myself. Also a load of IP address/Internet gobbledegook that would tell you where it was.
 
dammit hidden app wont work for me. it wants me to pay $20 bucks for it.... grrr. so i went ahead and downloaded prey..
but anyone please help me with hidden too....

I dont know why your so obsessed with Hidden when you know nothing about it, no one here uses it either. Several people has posted here about Prey and how good it works...FOR FREE. Just because something cost money doesnt mean it is better, look at Norton Anti Virus for instance. You stop paying and it basically turns into a virus itself and is next to impossible to get rid of.

true.. yeah.. i decided if it doesnt work for me who cares. i have the prey application and it seems like its the same :)

Sanny, i suggest you go for prey at preyproject.com and just forget about the whole Hidden program..
i tried to get Hidden a few days ago and they wanted to charge me $20 which i did not understand.

just go for prey, its the same thing (but different layout, etc)
