thats strange

Whats the baseband ?

I think iOS 4.2.5 will be released for all idevices in same time as verizon iphones, Feb 10th

Maybe it'll be an iPad/iPhone iOS thing where each of them were operating under different OS's (for awhile) until 4.2.1 came out. If the 4.2.5 is correct/accurate then it's probably just for the VZ iPhone and then, at some later date, perhaps ALL iPhones will be unified by some future iOS version.

Engadget commented on this as well, and they propose that it's due to the mobile hotspot software change. If that doesn't come to AT&T we might see slightly different os's on the carriers. That could prove interesting.

If that holds true then I can foresee several threads popping up here that someone tried to update/install to 4.2.5 and now their AT&T iPhone no longer works.

That will be quite amusing. Would be interesting though if the 4.2.5 could be JB'd and the hotspot functionality is brought over to the AT&T side of the house :D

Just like current tethering, I'd imagine that its on a carrier by carrier basis. No reason to block this from the GSM iphone if other carriers (besides AT&T) are willing to offer this to their customers.

Just my guess - IE you will see this on the other phones- whether AT&T allows it is up in the air though.

4.2.5 must accommodate all the CDMA functions and the mobile hotspot, Apple couldn't have released that or it would have spoil the beans on the Big Red phone. I am sure that 4.3 is ready to be release to developers and it will unify both phones.

Now I wonder how long it'll take for a jailbreak to be released! *sigh*

I am guessing it depends on whether the Limera1n or Shatter exploit are still there or not. If they are, a JB could be out rather quickly. If not, could months before before we see one. Maybe, not until after a new iPhone is release.

I hope they will release the unlock for 4.1-4.2.1 before working on that. A lot of people losing hope.

I hope one day people will listen and learn to educate themselves. Because TinyUmbrella preserves baseband for iPhone 4.

To be fair that doesn't work quite right on 4.2.1 upgrades and it doesn't include all of those who got their iphone with 4.2.1 already on it (or 4.1 for that matter)
