1080p Apple Keynote 5.8GB!

I noticed last night that iTunes podcast store has 1080p keynotes now. Went to stream it and it was jittery. I have 45Mbs down connection so i know it was not my connection. I went to download it 5.8 GB! :eek:

That is sick! So I am thinking I need to order a 64GB Millionarie Model. :apple:
 
Those are the type of HD files that will make 16GB iPad 3 owners cry.

Thankfully I hesitated on the 16GB and bought the 32GB. The retina display will turn me into a high definition whore and I'm sure many others here will see their video demands habits change.

Sometimes being a whore is a good thing!

It took me two years to fill up 16GBs but with my new habits and this high res content I went with 32GB.
 
I just went on there and it says it is 2.18GB. I do not know where you are getting 5.8GB at.

Hell, I'm nervous about filling my 32gb. 16gb is too small for most users. That keynote seems bigger than normal though.

I try to keep my 720p movies under 3-4gb and I plan on utilizing Home Sharing on iTunes as much as possible.

Yeah, I don't know what the hell OP is talking about. It's not even half as big as he says.

Apparently they have 3 Podcasts. I thought only two. Now I found the one at 5.76GB.

That must be some crazy bitrate because movies usually are not near that and they are 1:40 hours.
 
No big deal. I agree it must be a higher then normal bit rate because the third keynote is longer but only 4.5GB.

I am sure they will use some compression tricks in the future but I was shocked when I went to download it.

I think we need some thunderbolt connections for highspeed transfers.

You can only watch one thing at a time so even if 5.1GB. Not an issue for 16GB
 
If only the iPad had an SD card slot. I would have snagged a 64GB memory card on ebay for less money than a Smart Cover.
 
Between iCloud, Netflix, Hulu, and PC/MAC, I think 16gb will still be enough room, even if your a HD buff. You will just have to manage your data.
 
For the first few posts I thought you were talking about the Keynote app and got very nervous!

The install size is the same as the actual size.

It may not be an issue to you but it is to me. The last thing I want to do is manage my content. If they had offered a 128GB model I would have bought that even at a higher price. As it is I have to settle for the 64GB. I want to have as much of my content as possible on the iPad so whatever I'm in the mood for its there. I also want it to be locally available and none of this relying on the cloud business.
 
I'm likely going to wait a month or two or three to get the new iPad, but I've got an only 16gb iPad 2 at the moment and the space has been fine for what I use it for. I use a lot of streaming services and I usually have enough room to store two 720p movies on it if I need to.

But yeah… I think I might end up going for 32gb next time from what it sounds like. I'm still waiting to see if there's a noticeable size increase for retina-optimized apps.
 
That does suck really, but to be honest not worried as im not big on loading up movies on the device or a big movie person period. If any movie watching I'll be doing itll be via Netflix.

I am worried though about app sizes hopefully they stay under at least 2GB

thats exactly why i bought the 16gb this time around. I don't store any videos on there as I never buy movies / tv shows. I'm not the type that enjoys watching the same movie over and over. If i want to watch a movie on my iPad, its generally rented through iTunes or netflix / hulu.

also with iCloud now, i don't really have to store all my music on the iPad. With 4g speeds, i can have access to my songs as i need them.

I don't know. I've owned the first and 2nd iPad since release date. Third on the way (funny just got the shipping conf from apple as I type this :) )

In all those years and countless trips I've never had the urge for more storage. When away last thing I'm really thinking about is watching movies all day other than the flight. Day to day, it's easy enough to just sync a new movie, but even then I'd watch on TV if I'm home.

For the people such as yourself who put a lot of movies, etc.. I'm curious to how you typically operate? Just curious.
 
The 64GB LTE is the "Millionaire Model". It's a saying for the most expensive model of a product line. I can't see you affording one either as you can't even pay attention to this thread discussion.

What if you are traveling or on a plane?

This thread basically reaffirms my decision in getting a 32GB model over the 16GB. Having 5GB 1080p movies means I can at least have 3 or 4 on constant rotation while I have another 16GB for normal iPad use like apps, photos, and movies.
