I like Movist, like VLC, less "power user" oriented but it has most of the basics covered and then some. It also seems to handle MKV files better, no need to buffer (not exactly sure what VLC is doing there).
 
It can play it but the resolution on the HR is still only 1680 x 1050

I also like Movist. In fact, i love it.
Never had to use VLC again, Movist plays everything i throw at it and it's very user friendly.

Agreed before I learnt about movist years ago I used VLC but VLC stutters sometimes has a bit of issues. No issues with movist and with movist u can bump the volume up more.. which you cannot do easily with VLC... :)
