Hello.

I have a Macbook 12 inch Retina and want to purchase an HD film on iTunes. Will my screen display the full 1080p picture or does it shrink down the video to my 1400 x 900 'scaled' resolution? I am a little confused by what scales and what doesn't.

Thank you

It'll play at full 1080p since your screen has 2304x1440 pixels - far more than 1920x1080. iTunes/QuickTime handles this for you. You're not running 1440x900 - you're just scaling the UI to appear that way. You're always running 2304x1440, really.

You will experience "letterboxing" though (black bars top/bottom of video), since the rMB aspect ratio is not 16:9.
