After the update to 11.4, my Apple Watch Ultra 2 is experiencing extreme battery drain :( I have it since day one , and never ever had battery issues and now even lost 10% over night. Any ideas ?

Has the battery health gone down?

How old is your Apple Watch Ultra 2? Did you have it since launch day 2023 (if it’s a natural titanium one)?

Hello and thanks for your response. Yes it’s the natural titanium since day one. Nonetheless, I ve just realized that I had the with flight mode off and my iPhone in flight mode.. so during the night it was connected to WiFi or cellular I don’t know… so maybe this is why it happened . I will check today again. Root cause analysis: typically , when I charge my watch at night, I unplug , and both photo and watch are in flight mode . Hence every morning both are still at 100% batter and battery health of thr awu2 is 99%. I don’t do gps sports only daily marathon swimming pool training… fingers crossed !

The one for sure with 11.4 is that it takes ages to reboot.. before it was approx 45 sec and now 2 minutes ( there is an open topic already )

AWU2 owner here. Not seeing any strange battery drain with 11.4.

The reboot time is really bizarre.

Indeed it is. I am going to take this comment as a starting point to ask some questions to the OP regarding his Apple Watch Ultra 2, below 👇.

Do you use the sleep tracking feature on your Apple Watch Ultra?

When you’re swimming in triathlons with your Apple Watch Ultra, what time intervals are your iPhone and Apple Watch not connected? If your Apple Watch Ultra has cellular setup on it, it will automatically switch to cellular connection instead of Bluetooth when your iPhone is not with you.

Could you please let me know your iPhone model and iOS version? Is your iPhone currently on any beta of iOS?

Try doing a test run without airplane mode on and see how your Apple Watch performs during workouts with and without your iPhone.

Please let me know the results and if the issue is resolved. Thanks!

My U2, also since original launch, shows same battery life as before 11.4, give or take.
The usual: give it a week and reboot watch and phone

Update for my case. After 24hrs and reboot of phone and watch it returned back to the normal times and indeed after 1,5 year of ownership I do have 2,5 full days with daily workout (without gps)
Mystery remains the booting time that it’s 2 minutes plus … this I truly don’t understand and we have 4 watches in the family and all behave with the same abnormality

Cheers
Alex

Have you rebooted it?
I’ve rebooted both the watch and phone, even unpaired and re-paired them, but nothing works. OP said things returned to normal after 24 hours, but I’ve had this issue for 3 days. I’ll try rebooting again and waiting another day.

I’m thinking it’s one of those Apple updates we’re most are ok with battery and some are not because my Ultra is dropping 15-18% overnight before last update overnight would only drop 1-2%.

My issue persists after four days. I restored my watch from a backup last time, but I’ll restore it as new this time. Apple’s software has been disappointing lately, and it’s frustrating having to set all my preferences up again. This bug is just one of many I’ve encountered throughout macOS, iOS, and watchOS recently.

So you workout without gps and the iPhone with you?

ultra2 100% battery health,i do or have on average a hour workout a day and then usual phone calls, sms etc and i still on average since last update see 72 hours or more my last charge was friday 9am too 100% it was at 22% at 6pm Monday albeit no workout today before i plopped it on charge . i have NO restrictions or disabling of background refreshing apps settings in fact everything is switched on i regularly use the watch has my primary phone device leaving phone at home or in the car. * note when i was using beta’s uptill last october i was lucky to see 2 days max since not using any beta releases ive not experienced any short period battery issues .

No the opposite… never phone and no gps and always in flight mode since i do marathon swimming indoors… so results : charged Friday 12 lunch time and I had a remaining 15% and charged Monday 11pm! Really good

Today again since yesterday night 11pm to 8:15am from 100% it went to 95% while in flight mode … this I never had before, always max 1% loss

Except for the marathon swim I do have the same experience. 11.4 installed and the battery went down. Out of sheer doubt - the AWU1 lasts much less than a day - I’m now running 11.5 beta. But that doesn’t really help either.

Neat battery stats.

Was it in Low Power Mode? Do you track your indoor pool swims with third party app(s)? I only track swimming with the Workout app in a house pool when I visit my relatives in spring/summer.

I’ve had a battery drain issue since updating to watchOS 11.1. With watchOS 10 I would have about 20% drain a day. Now it’s 40-60%. I’ve contacted Apple multiple times about this issue and their response is “that’s normal”. So good luck expecting any solution from Apple. For me this is my last Apple Watch I’ll ever purchase.

I wear my AWU2 all night every night for sleep/vitals tracking, with the phone and watch in Sleep Focus. When I wake up in the morning I'm usually around 97-98% battery. I play golf 3 days a week, using the GPS for 3-4 hours, and can get a full day with golf and another full day without golf before I recharge, and it's somewhere around 18-22% at the end of those 2 days.

Updating to 11.4 didn't change anything for me, battery drain is still the same as it's been since the watch was brand new.

same drain issue for me, a reboot has now fixed the excessive drain. noticed the long reboot time as well

My AWU 2 case remains unchanged. I restored it twice… once from a backup and once as a new watch, and still the battery is terrible. It used to last 2.5-3 days, and now it won’t even lasts 1. I’m beyond frustrated at this point.

im no expert but have a look through the apps installed on watch my wife has a mass of apps installed on her iphone and those install unnecessary apps on her watch S10 . try deleting any unused or not required apps on your watch ,myself only have two third party apps installed on watch that’s carrot and duffy all the rest i remove. photo shows last charge wednesday its now friday morning its used less than 50% and with cellular on all the time and usual daily workouts, calls, sms, notifications etc . obviously something is running in background or looks to be that’s killing the battery. have a good day

Weird situation and fully understand your frustration.
My first try to would be switch off live activities and smart stack and see if this changes something. They are known as big battery eaters if something is wrong.
