11.4 update stopped Mac Mini M1 external monitor from working. Wasn't this problem fixed?

Being aware of the problem of external monitors with Big Sur on M1 Mac Minis, until now I had kept using 11.1 where it was working nicely. Upon reading the forums which seemed to indicate that the problem was solved, I updated today to 11.4, and instantly the external 43" LG monitor no longer works. When I was updating, the Mac Mini rebooted, and the screen showed a dazzling color distortion, and then, from there, no more signal.

Any steps that others have done to get things working?
